ICICI Bank Expands UPI Payment Access for NRIs in India to International Numbers!

ICICI Bank has unveiled a ground-breaking development for its non-resident Indian (NRI) clientele in India by introducing instant payment capabilities through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) using their international mobile numbers. This strategic move is poised to elevate the ease and efficiency of everyday transactions for NRI customers.

In an official announcement, the bank emphasized the keen impact this service will have on streamlining payment processes. NRI customers can now seamlessly settle utility bills, conduct merchant transactions, and engage in e-commerce activities using their international mobile numbers linked to their NRE/NRO bank accounts with ICICI Bank in India.

The innovative service is facilitated through the bank's mobile banking app, iMobile Pay, enhancing accessibility and convenience for users. Previously, NRIs were required to link an Indian mobile number to their bank accounts to utilize UPI services across ten countries, including the USA, UK, UAE, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

With this latest offering, NRI customers can effortlessly execute UPI payments by scanning any Indian QR code, transferring funds to a UPI ID, or sending money to an Indian mobile number or bank account, eliminating the need to switch to an Indian mobile number for payment transactions.

Siddhartha Mishra, Head of Digital Channels and Partnerships at ICICI Bank, highlighted the significance of this advancement in catering to the diverse needs of NRI customers across the globe. He expressed the bank's commitment to leveraging the Unified Payments Interface infrastructure provided by NPCI to fortify and revolutionize the digital payments landscape on a global scale.

In essence, ICICI Bank's integration of UPI services with international mobile numbers marks a pivotal step towards enhancing the accessibility and efficiency of financial transactions for NRI customers, reaffirming the bank's dedication to innovation and customer-centric solutions in the digital era.
